A streaming camera has one job it cannot fail: keeping your face where the viewer expects it. The Link 2 does that with a motor — the head pans and tilts to follow you across the room — and we prefer a moving lens to the software cropping that most cameras call tracking, because a crop throws away the edges of your frame and the light that was in them. Sit still for an hour and you won't notice. Stand up to demonstrate something, and it is the entire reason to own this camera.
The rest of the package is why it's our top pick rather than just the cleverest thing here. A 1/2-inch sensor with HDR carries a room that has a bright window behind you, and phase-detection autofocus locks onto a box you hold up instead of hunting through the background. DeskView, the bokeh effect, and manual framing all come out of the Link Controller app, so set aside a few minutes before your first stream to find them.
Two things to know. The camera parks with its lens tilted down, and it can stay aimed at your desk until you reopen the app. The price also puts it level with the MX Brio and above everything else on this list, which only makes sense if your stream actually has movement in it.
That's the honest split. For a seated desk stream, the Link 2C does the same sensor and the same 4K for less. For anyone who stands, gestures, or walks a demo across the room, this is the camera the rest of the group gets measured against.
Pros
- Motorized head keeps you framed while you move
- 1/2-inch sensor with HDR for backlit rooms
- Phase-detection autofocus holds on held-up objects
- Magnetic mount and USB-C with an A adapter
Cons
- Privacy tilt can leave the lens aimed at your desk
- Early failures make an easy return window worth having
We recommend the Link 2 to anyone whose stream involves movement: the motor keeps you framed, and the 1/2-inch sensor holds up in a dim room.
